New Delhi: BJP president Amit Shah on Saturday called opposition alliance 'Mahagathbandhan' (Grand Alliance), an 'eyewash' and 'based on the falsehood', which comprised parties that the BJP had defeated one after the other since the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
The two-day meeting of the party's highest body started with Shah's address on Saturday at Dr Ambedkar International Centre, where he urged the party members to reach out to the people with this message and make them aware of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's good governance in five years.
Shah also mentioned that the incumbent government is farmer-friendly, poor-friendly and backward class-friendly government, where the schemes touched every section of the society. However, the opposition parties do not spare the floor of the House to politicise issues and do not let the Parliament run.
"Since the last executive meeting, BJP won many important elections in different states. That shows that people have faith in PM Modi and BJP. But still, they (Oppositions) reflect their frustration at various times, even on the floor of the House. They brought 'No-Confidence' motion against our government, knowing that we have people's support and the number. But still, Prime Minister let it happen as we believe in democracy," the BJP chief added.
Making a scathing attack on Congress, Shah called the political strategy of the Congress is "Breaking India". "In one side PM Moding is 'making India' through 'Make In India', on the other side opposition Congress is busy in 'breaking India'," he said during the office bearers' meeting.
Shah also claimed that Congress is trying to gain its 'unholy' political mileage through important issues, like 'Urban Naxalism'.
Besides, this national executive meeting is the first in the absence of the party patriarch and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, since the party established. "The party is going through a void after Vajpayeeji's death," Defence minister and senior BJP leader Nirmala Sitharaman said in a press conference. On the same day, the meeting started with a commemoration ceremony to Vajpayee and BJP president Amit Shah mentioned his contribution to the party.
Apart from this, there was a detailed discussion over the Kerala flood and Shah urged the party workers to get more associated with the rescue work, Sitharaman told the media persons. She also informed that there was a detailed discussion on NRC and which is not new. The minister said, "Since BJP was established, nine times NRC was discussed at various times."
The party top leadership further vowed more mandate in both impending Assembly elections and in Lok Sabha elections.
"In Odisha, West Bengal and in Telangana, where BJP is in the second position, will definitely try to get more mandate than 2014. In Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and in Mizoram we are going to win," BJP president mentioned during the meeting.
The party has also decided to organise various state-level programmes ahead of the elections; i.g. in Mizoram, BJP is going to organize a conclave of 10,000 party workers and the 'Good governance of five years of Modi-government' would be the party line for all elections, Sitharaman further added.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj, Nitin Gadkari and Suresh Prabhu were among the attendees when Shah spoke. Senior BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani also attended the meeting at the Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi.
