New Delhi: For online fraudsters, it seems all are equal – whether it's a high-ranked police official or a common civilian – as victims of online frauds ranges from IPS officers to local residents.

In a recent incident of online fraud, a senior IPS officer of Bihar cadre was taken for a ride by cyberspace fraudsters when the officer tried his luck to grab a best deal being offered by a well-known e-commerce portal.

The incident relates to 2015 batch Bihar cadre IPS officer Kantesh Kumar Mishra, who had ordered a smartphone by using Flipkart online shopping portal.

The phone was booked and was to be delivered at Jamshedpur in Jharkhand to his family member. When the item was delivered, there was no phone in the box, rather it had pieces of bricks.

When Mishra, who is currently posted as Rural SP in Patna, got to know about the fraud, he registered a case under sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating and dishonesty) of the IPC against the online shopping portal. The case has been registered with the Sonari police station in Jamshedpur.

"The fraudsters are doing it without any fear. It seems they are not even afraid of getting caught as they change the article either during transit or due to poor packaging," Mishra said, adding, "Since, I had booked the product with a reputed company, I'd not expected such a fraud. It's very shocking."
