New Delhi: After the Trinamool supremo, Mamata Banerjee, described the death of CCD owner VG Siddhartha as "very unfortunate" and the consequence of "harassment from different agencies", the parliamentary party wing decided to rake up the issue on the floor of the House. TMC MP Derek O'Brien will submit a notice for a 'Meet to create a conducive atmosphere for the entrepreneurs to flourish' in the Upper House on Thursday.
The party leaders are demanding discussions on such issues, a source claimed, without naming Siddhartha's death.
O'Brien on Wednesday slammed the government over what the opposition has called the "hurried" passage of bills in the ongoing parliament session. The attack comes a day after the contentious bill to ban 'Triple Talaq' sailed through the opposition-dominated Rajya Sabha.
"Parliament is supposed to scrutinize Bills. This chart explains the bulldozing of this Session. Are we delivering pizzas or passing legislation?" he tweeted on Wednesday.
He also attached a chart purportedly showing the contrast in the number of bills that were scrutinized when the Congress-led alliance was in power. He claimed that in the present Lok Sabha, only one out of the 18 bills passed were scrutinised, bringing the number down to 5 per cent.
On Tuesday, the TMC leader said the way the bills were being passed amounted to a "mockery of Parliament" and that it was the government's way of "smothering" the opposition.
Mamata's party is now third largest in the Upper House with 13 members after Bharatiya Janata Party (78) and Congress (48).
