Elephant Caretaker Killed by Kumki Elephant in Garati Forest
jalpaiguri: Madho Kheria (40), an elephant caretaker from Murti Bana Basti in Meteli block, was fatally attacked by a Kumki elephant in Garati forest on Sunday evening. The incident occurred around 5pm near the Garati camp while Kheria was cutting grass for the elephants. The Kumki, named Manik, suddenly attacked him. Despite efforts by other mahouts, he succumbed to his injuries. Kheria was rushed to Mangalbari Rural Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Rajiv De, ADFO of the Gorumara Wildlife Division, expressed grief over the incident, calling it “deeply unfortunate.”
Army provides training to Village Defence Guards in J&K’s Poonch
mendhar/jammu: The Indian Army on Sunday provided comprehensive training to Village Defence Guards (VDGs) in a forward area of the Mendhar sector in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, security officials said. A total of 43 VDG members attended the training session, which aimed to enhance their skills in minor tactics, endurance and firing, the officials added. The training was conducted by the Rashtriya Rifles battalion under the aegis of the counter-insurgency force, Romeo, at Balnoi, located near the Line of Control (LoC).
