Kochi: Movement of ships through Ernakulam shipping channel was partially affected on Tuesday after a fishing boat, which was being towed to the shore, sank, Cochin Port Trust officials said.
The six fishermen on board the boat are safe, police said.
Police said the fishing boat sank when it was being towed to the shore after it developed a technical snag in the sea during fishing.
Cochin Port Trust officials it has deployed its vessels to locate the boat and lift it using cranes.
"Movement of big ships through the Ernakulam channel has been affected following the incident. However, there is no problem in the movement of small vessels," a Port Trust official said.
The Navy has been informed about the incident as it is a key channel being used by the Southern Naval Command and Cochin Shipyard.
