Nainital: Popular Kumaoni folk singer Pappu Karki and two persons were killed early on Saturday when their car turned turtle on Herakhan Road, around 40 km from here. The incident occurred around 5 am when they were returning from a programme at Okhalkanda. While Pappu Karki (34), Rajendra Gonia (26) and Pushkar Gonia (25), died on the spot, two others of the car were injured.
The injured have been admitted to a hospital in Haldwani, he said. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat condoled the deaths and commiserated with the families of the deceased.
He said that it was a sad day for Uttarakhand which lost one of its gems in the accident. Karki was famous for singing Kumaoni folk.
His latest song Chanchari was uploaded on YouTube just on Friday and it had already garnered 16,000 views and more then 500 comments.
