HP goes solar, signs two MoUs for 250 MW plants

Shimla: In the run-up to proposed global investors meet, Himachal Pradesh government on Tuesday signed two MoUs with leading private players for setting-up two mega solar power plants having installed capacity of 250 MW. The projects will involve an investment of worth Rs. 1000 crore.

Two MOUs were signed in presence of Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur and newly appointed Chief Secretary Srikant Baldi.

One MoU worth Rs. 600 crore was signed between State Government and M/s Renew Energy Pvt. Ltd. through its Director Prabhat Kumar Mishra for setting up of 150 MW Solar Power Plant. The project will be commissioned in 2021. It will generate employment for over 1000 persons

Second MoU for Rs 400 crore investment was also signed with M/s CSE Development (India) Pvt. Ltd. The company will set-up 100 MW Solar Plant to produce renewal energy.

"This project on completion would provide employment to about 700 persons," said Principal Secretary (Power and finance) Prabodh Saxena, who signed the MOUs.

The Chief Minister said Himachal Pradesh, besides its vast hydro power potential, is looking at harness renewable energy. Thus, Solar power sector was being promoted in a big way.

He asked the officials to facilitate the companies to obtain necessary permissions and clearances, so that work on these projects could be started soon. "Efforts will be made to use modern environment friendly technology for harnessing solar power and work to set up the plants
