NEW DELHI: In the wake of the devastating natural calamity that has struck Himachal Pradesh, causing heavy rainfall, landslides, and cloud bursts resulting in widespread destruction and loss of lives and property, Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Youth Affairs and Sports, and prominent BJP leader from the state, Anurag Singh Thakur, has issued a heartfelt appeal to all political parties, with a special focus on the ruling Congress, to set aside politics and join forces in providing relief to the affected region.
Amidst the ongoing rescue and relief operations, Thakur urged, “I implore all political parties, and particularly the Congress, to put aside political agendas during this critical juncture and offer unwavering support to the relief efforts.”
Expressing his concern over unwarranted criticism towards the people of Bihar, Thakur emphasized the importance of unity during times of crisis. He remarked, “In times of disaster, our strength lies in our unity. Pointing fingers and making baseless accusations is counterproductive. We must not cast aspersions on the people of Bihar without justification.”
The call for unity extended beyond just political factions, as Thakur urged all social organizations and political parties to unite in their efforts to provide assistance and rescue operations. “Let us stand together, extending a helping hand to one another. I also appeal to the esteemed ministers of Himachal Pradesh to communicate with a unified voice and focus solely on relief work,” he stated.
Thakur also shed light on the collaborative efforts between the central and state governments in response to the disaster. “The central government is working in close coordination with state administrations, leaving no stone unturned in our rescue and relief endeavours. Our vigilance remains unwavering, with NDRF teams deployed across various regions of Himachal Pradesh for relief operations. The Indian Air Force is conducting continuous evacuation missions, successfully rescuing over a thousand individuals in the last 72 hours,” Thakur informed.
In addition, the Union Minister divulged details of his forthcoming visit to Himachal Pradesh on August 20 and 21. He revealed his intention to tour multiple districts, particularly in the Shimla region, where he plans to meet with families affected by the calamity, offering his condolences and support.
“We remain in constant contact with officials, ensuring a streamlined approach to relief and rescue operations. Even upon my arrival in Himachal Pradesh, we intend to collaborate with authorities, discussing strategies to expedite relief efforts and provide solace to the affected communities,” Thakur affirmed. As Himachal Pradesh grapples with the aftermath of this natural disaster, Anurag Thakur’s appeal for unity underscores the imperative need for solidarity and collective action in the face
of adversity.
