The Kerala High Court on Monday deferred to Thursday the hearing on the bail plea of Malayalam actor Dileep, arrested for allegedly plotting the abduction and assault of a popular South Indian actress.
Justice B Sudheendra Kumar deferred the hearing, rejecting actor's fervent plea to hear the same urgently. On Thursday, the court will first hear the prosecution counsel argument against the plea.
Though counsel for the accused repeatedly insisted for a urgent hearing of the matter, the court said the plea can be considered only after hearing the investigation agency.
Pleading innocence with the court, Dileep's counsel said there was no material to implicate the actor in the case.
He argued that the actor was arrested on the basis of the statement by co-accused Sunil Kumar, alias 'Pulsar' Suni.
The actor moved the high court for bail after an Angamaly magisterial court refused to grant him the relief and sent him to judicial custody till July 25. Dileep, charged under various sections of IPC, including the one for hatching criminal conspiracy for abduction and assault of the actress in a moving car on February 17, is currently lodged in a jail in his home town Aluva. Opposing Dileep's bail plea in the magisterial court on Saturday, the prosecution had claimed that there was strong evidence against the actor.
