Chief justices of several countries sat in CJI’s court, witnessed proceedings

NEW DELHI: Chief justices of several countries, including from Ivory Coast, South Sudan and Ghana, on Tuesday sat in the Chief Justice of India’s court and witnessed the proceedings of the Supreme Court for around 30 minutes.

As soon as a bench comprising D Y Chandrachud and justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra assembled in the morning, Justice Chandrachud welcomed the chief justices of these countries.

“Members of the bar, I have very great pleasure in welcoming in the chief justices who have come from overseas for the international conference,” the CJI said.

Chief Justice of India extended a warm welcome to overseas Chief Justices at an international conference. Expressing great pleasure, he acknowledged the presence of Chief Justices from Ivory Coast, South Sudan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Cameroon, Botswana, and Ghana. After the initial greeting, the CJI-led bench took a brief pause, indicating a temporary adjournment. He mentioned the overseas justices would proceed to different courtrooms, and the bench would reconvene shortly.

The gesture reflects a diplomatic exchange and camaraderie among legal professionals from various countries, emphasising the global nature of the legal community.

The conference provides a platform for collaborative discussions and mutual understanding among the legal luminaries, fostering international cooperation in the field of law.
