BJP dominates Panchayat polls in Arunachal, wins bulk of ZPM, GPM seats

Itanagar: The ruling BJP in Arunachal Pradesh won a majority of Zilla Parishad and Gram Panchayat constituencies, according to the final results declared by the State Election Commission (SEC) on Sunday evening.

Counting of votes for the Panchayat and municipal bodies polls was held on Saturday. However, counting of votes for the panchayat elections continued till late at night, for which it was officially confirmed on Sunday, SEC secretary Taru Talo said.

According to a statement from the SEC, in the Zilla Parishad segment, the BJP won 170 out of 245 Zilla Parishad member (ZPM) seats, including 59 seats uncontested, establishing its clear dominance at the district level.

The Peoples’ Party of Arunachal (PPA) emerged as the second-largest force with 28 seats, while the Congress secured seven seats in the Zilla Parishad constituencies.

The National People’s Party (NPP) won five seats, including one uncontested, and 23 constituencies were won by independent and other candidates.

A similar trend was reflected in the Gram Panchayat elections, where the BJP won 6,085 out of 8,208 seats, including a significant 5,211 uncontested victories, underscoring the party’s strong grassroots presence.

PPA candidates won 648 seats, including 386 uncontested, while independents secured 627 seats, of which 280 were uncontested.

The Congress won 216 seats, including 111 uncontested, NCP bagged 396 seats with 159 uncontested, and the NPP won 160 seats, including 81 uncontested.

The Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) accounted for 27 seats, including 16 uncontested, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won one seat.
