Lucknow: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav made a scathing attack on the BJP amidst growing speculation about rifts within the INDI alliance, asserting that the coalition remains united and resolute. Speaking on Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary in Lucknow on Sunday, Yadav predicted the BJP’s defeat in the Milkipur by-election, accusing the ruling party of engaging in electoral malpractice.

“They have stolen seven elections. The matter has even reached the Supreme Court. Policemen repeatedly pressed buttons on voting machines, and if a forensic investigation is conducted, it will reveal that the same individual voted multiple times,” Yadav alleged. He further claimed that even election officers involved in the process admitted to their helplessness in the face of pressure.

When questioned about the possibility of women voters being stopped at gunpoint in Milkipur, as allegedly happened in Kundarki and Rampur, Yadav remarked: “This is a serious concern. I urge our workers to stay alert and respond decisively in such situations.”

Responding to questions about attending the Maha Kumbh, Yadav said he has always participated in the religious event and could share pictures to prove it. Taking a jab at his political rivals, he said: “Those who ask others to bathe in the Ganga should also share their photos. Some people go to the Kumbh for charity, while others go to

wash away their sins.” Yadav also expressed concern over the recent accident at Kannauj railway station, calling it unfortunate. He criticized the state of infrastructure, pointing out that many railway stations built during British rule remain unchanged.

Meanwhile, paying homage to Swami Vivekananda, Yadav highlighted the relevance of his teachings in contemporary times. “Swami Vivekananda introduced India to the world and taught the values of tolerance and universal acceptance. His thoughts continue to guide us on the right path,” he said.

Yadav emphasised one of Vivekananda’s famous quotes: “The country needs bread more than religion.” He urged people to honour Vivekananda’s legacy by incorporating his teachings into their lives.
