Sasaram (Bihar): A mob lynched four men in Bihar's Rohtas district on Tuesday after they opened fire at a shop owned by the husband of a district board member in an alleged extortion bid, the police said.
The incident happened this morning after eight armed men, riding three motorbikes, reached the shop of Vishal Kumar, the husband of District Board Member Rinky Devi, at Kowath Nagar Panchayat and opened indiscriminate fire, they said. Kumar and a customer received bullet injuries in the firing. The police said the eight men had allegedly demanded Rs 3 lakh from Rinky Devi nearly one-and-half-months ago and threatened her of dire consequences if she did not pay.
Deputy Inspector General (Shahabad Range) Mohammad Rahman said over 500 people gathered near the shop after hearing the sound of gunshots.
Police said the mob caught four of the attackers and beat them up while the four others managed to escape. Soon, the police arrived at the spot and took the four to a nearby hospital where doctors declared them dead.
