Ram Navami is celebrated in North India with great fervour and to mark the occasion, Bharatiya Sangeet Sadan and Sangeet Natak Akademi is going to organise a dance and music programme titled-’Shri Ram-Panchwati Varnan – Ram Van Gaman’ on Friday in the national Capital.
Dr Mahesh Sharma, minister of State for Tourism & culture will be inaugurating the event where dance maestro and Padamshri Uma Sharma will perform Nritya-Bhinaya (Kathak) on this auspicious occasion. The cultural programme will provide a delightful experience to all dance and music lovers.
This event is based on the Tulsidas Chaupai and it will be presented by Uma Sharma with her disciples. Vocal support and music direction will be provided by Pt. Jwala Prasad.
The performance will show the flawless presentation from the ancient text, chapter Ram Van Gaman and will unfold the deep emotion and love of Sita towards her better half. It will also show how for an Indian woman, the company of her husband is more important rather than the comfort of a palace. Panchvati Varnan is also narration of Surpanakha’s jealousy towards Sita’s beauty and how her rage to take revenge led to abduction of Sita.
Uma Sharma has worked majorly in preserving the ancient Indian art dance form with her passion and extensive research on our age-old dance form and brought out the transition of former style of Kathak to modern.
She has travelled around the world narrating the timeless stories of Indian mythology and attended various workshops. To keep the culture long lived, she is mentoring budding stars who share the same interest and preserve the art.
