This is a news report that would have made the famous Belgian detective Hercule Poirot very interested. A special train arrives in the national capital with a body and no answers. The body of a 60-year-old railway manager was found inside the Rajasthan Royal Palace on Wheels a few hours before it arrived at the Safdarjung railway station here on Sunday morning after a week-long trip. According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Om Prakash Aggarwal who was to retire on 31 October. His body was recovered from his cabin in the train. Aggarwal hails from Rajasthan.
‘The incident came to light when Pradeep Sharma, a railway employee who went to Aggarwal’s cabin to wake him up in the morning, found the door locked from inside. Sharma knocked on the door several times but did not get any response. Suspicious, he informed the railway authorities who broke open the door with the help of Railway Police Force personnel. Aggarwal was lying unconscious on the floor. The railway doctors were contacted and he was later rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead,’ the police officers said.
Sharma told the cops that he last spoke with Aggarwal at around 11.30 pm Sunday after dinner. Aggarwal had asked Sharma to wake him at 7 am, a few hours before the train was scheduled to reach Delhi.
According to Sanjay Bhatiya, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime & Railways), ‘Prima facie, it seems to be a natural death. There is a possibility that he might have had a heart attack as neither any injury marks were noticed on his body nor any alcoholic substance was found inside his cabin.’
The body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem examination was conducted in Sabzi Mandi Mortuary. The reports are still awaited, which will clear the reason behind Aggarwal’s death.
