Some of India’s most revered classical music veterans including legendary vocalists and most celebrated maestros of sitar, sarod, santoor, veena and the flute will be enthralling the Capital the whole of next week. Delhi Classical Musical festival will woo music lovers for four days with special performances everyday.
The performances by some of India’s celebrated musicians like Pt Pandit Jasraj, Ustad Mashkoor Ali Khan, Vidushi Girija Devi, Meeta Pandit and Manjari Asnare with artistes like veena player Ustad Mustafa Raza, sitar maestro Budhaditya Mukherjee, sarod maestro Biswajit Roy Chowdhury, santoor maestro Shiv Kumar Sharma and renowned flutist Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia will be mesmerising the audience with their performances.
The music festival will open on 8 October with one of the most renowned vocalist of Hindustani classical music Pt Jasraj who will be accompanied by Ustad Mustafa Raza on the veena. Sitar maestro Budhaditya Mukherjee and vocalist Ustad Mashkoor Ali Khan will be the performing on the second day while the third day will bring together Vidushi Girija Devi and Meeta Pandit. Sarod maestro Biswajit Roy Chowdhury and young vocalist Manjari Asnare will regale the audience on the fourth day.
The highlight of the festival will be a ‘jugalbandi’ between two legendary musical greats on the last day which will bring together the legendary sarod-flute duo of Pt Shiv Kumar Sharma and Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia. The two have delivered some brilliant performances for their listeners over the years.
The show is presented by Delhi Government’s Department of Art, Culture & Languages and the Punjabi Academy. 'As part of Delhi Celebrates we make sure that all forms of music and arts get their due space under the sun. We believe we should promote Indian classical music more and more to be able to draw young blood into its fold,' said Rawail Singh, Secretary, Punjabi Academy.
