Museum of Bengal Modern Art to celebrate art, poetry from Kolkata, Germany

This gallery will be inaugurated by Martin Ney—the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany—on May 17 in the presence of an august gathering of poets and artists from Kolkata 

and Dresden.

A unique artistic collaboration between artists and poets from Dresden and Kolkata, seven mainstream artists and seven poets from Dresden joined hands with seven artists and seven poets from Kolkata to create intaglio, etchings and poems for —Shuttle— a unique portfolio created in the 90s. The original artworks and poems created for Shuttle will be displayed at the museum.

“There is no theme in particular. Artists of the two countries probably realized that their works—both the poetry and the graphics can co-exist to create a unique message”, Shuvaprasanna, veteran artist and founder of Arts Acre told Millennium Post. 

Fifteen contemporary artists from Germany will be present for the inauguration of this gallery. The participating artists from Dresden in the 90s were – Lutz Fleischer, Eberhard Goschel, Peter Herrmann, Reinhard Sandner, Max Uhlig, Claus Weidensdorfer and Sonja Zimmermann. 

The participating poets from Dresden were – Lothar Barth, Andreas Hegewald, Uwe Hubner, Lothar Koch, Gregor Kunz, Bernhard Theilmann and Michael Wustefeld.

Participating artists from Kolkata were Dip Banerjee, Shipra Bhattacharya, Kinkar Ghosh, Shakti Karmakar, Somenath Maity, Munindra Rajbongshi and Shuvaprasanna. 

The participating poets from Kolkata were Shakti Chattopadhyay, Alokeranjan Dasgupta, Sunil Gangopadhyay, Sankha Ghosh, Joy Goswami, Dibyendu Palit and Mallika Sengupta.

The translators for the project were Shashi Despande, Subodh Sarkar, Kalyan Ray and Dipak Rudra.

Some of the poets and artists from Kolkata who participated then are also expected to be present on the occasion.
