The city has found an anti-graft crusader in Devendra Sharma, a 45-year-old factory owner from India’s commercial capital, who came to join the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) at its office situated in Hanuman Road, Connaught Place, on foot! It took him around 53 days to complete his journey from Mumbai to Delhi. Speaking to Millennium Post, Sharma said he’s fed up with corruption and thinks Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP was the only hope for countrymen to deal with the menace.

Inspired by Kejriwal, Sharma decided to take this drastic step and walked all the way from Mumbai to Delhi to show his support to AAP.

‘I started my journey from Bhinder area in Mumbai on 10 January and since then I traversed several cities. I took National Highway 8 route to reach here. I have covered Surat, Borada, Udaipur, Ajmer, and Gurgaon before reaching AAP’s Delhi office on Tuesday evening,’ said Sharma.

‘I got overwhelming support from the people and it was a life-changing experience for me to meet hundreds of people during my journey. I met many AAP supporters who helped me after coming to know about my mission. I also convinced people to vote for the AAP in coming Lok Sabha election,’ said Sharma.

Sharma, who has a son and a daughter, runs an iron factory in Mumbai, which employs 10 people. When asked who is looking after his family and factory in his absence, he said his wife and brothers are taking care of the matters. ‘They have extended full support for this noble cause,’ said Sharma.

He will pay the Delhi office of AAP another visit on Wednesday and is likely to meet senior leaders of the party before leaving for his home on Thursday. ‘I got a warm welcome by AAP cadres when I reached their Delhi office. I would be happy if I am allowed to meet Kejriwal and other senior AAP leaders,’ said Sharma. He further said an AAP supporter offered him to take him on a rickshaw ride in and around the Capital on Wednesday.

Previously, a jeweller, too, had pledged his allegiance to AAP. Shiv Kumar Bansal, along with his wife Bimla Devi, has been serving as a cook at the AAP party office in Connaught Place for the past seven months.
