We are talking about none other than National award winning actress Dolly Ahluwalia. This Republic Day, she will enthrall the Capital as she portrays the role of Boodhi Kaaki in Atul Satya Koushik’s play Teri Meri Kahaani to be staged at Kamani Auditorium, in the Capital on January 26.
“We have organized a five-day Winter Theatre Festival from January 8 and my play Kahani Teri Meri will draw curtains to this theatre gala on January 26. We particularly picked this day because we didn’t want Delhi to miss this rare chance to watch her perform live,” says Atul Satya Koushik who has written and directed the play.
The Films and Theatre Society, run by Koushik, is known for offering its audiences various festivals, and every time with new flavours and spices. And the interesting features of the Winter Theatre Festival, which has come as a New Year’s present, is that all the plays featuring in this gala are of completely different genres. While Massage, the opening play starring Rakesh Bedi was a comedy play, Saudagar was an Indian adaptation of Shakespeare’s Merchant Of Venice.
“When we decided to revive my play Koobar aur Kaaki, I could not think of anyone else than Dolly Mam to portray as Boodhi Kaaki in Kahani Teri Meri, and getting to see Dolly mam perform live on stage is a chance not everyone gets. She lives her character,” adds Koushik, who is also the writer-director of 15 plays produced by the society.
Dolly Ahluwalia was last seen on stage in her play Jug Jug Jiyo at Gurgaon a few months ago. This is definitely a rare chance for Delhiites and we shall not miss it for any reason.
Kahani Teri Meri, earlier known as Koobar aur Kaaki, is an amalgamation of Munshi Premchand’s Boodhi Kaaki and Dharamveer Bharti’s Gulki Banno. Atul Satya Koushik has merged the two stories in such a way that their essence and the exquisiteness remain unharmed.
The vision and mission of the director transcends the stories to an incredible level. The play depicts the various desires of human beings. Someone desires to be well-off, someone desires to eat sumptuous food while someone desires love.
The contemporary issues which concern humans are similar to those of archaic age. We just masquerade as modern and independent but somewhere deep inside we are still the same vulnerable and insatiable social animals. This play promises to take you back to a different epoch and leave you with an elevating and enlightening experience with its powerful performances.
“We make sure that we are taking our plays to various cities like Jaipur, Lucknow, Mumbai, Chandigarh and as we move around, we realize that even Delhi is missing out on some amazing performances in those cities. That’s how we got the idea to invite Rakesh Bedi’s play Massage to our festival,” adds Koushik, who is also the writer-director of 15 plays produced by the society.
