"In the current 12th Plan till now (April 1, 2012 to June 30, 2015), district authorities spent Rs 3,122.20 crore on works recommended by Rajya Sabha members and Rs 7,740.90 crore on works recommended by Lok Sabha members under the MPLAD scheme," Statistics Minister V K Singh said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.
Under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) scheme, the district authorities spent money on works recommended by the member of both the Houses from time to time. The minister informed the House that the district authorities had spent Rs 2,294.18 crore on the recommendations of Rajya Sabha members and Rs 5,304.32 crore on the proposal of Lok Sabha member during the 11th Five Year Plan (2007-12).
