BJP and Congress have rushed to take up farmers' cause ahead of Lok Sabha polls. The BJP also announced that it collected Rs 7.42 crore during the day-long protest as donations for the Chief Minister's Relief Fund from people and various organisations.

However, terming donations as violation of model code of conduct, the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) petitioned the Election Commission demanding a probe.  Meanwhile, a Congress delegation, including Union ministers Kamal Nath and Jyotiraditya Scindia, party general secretary Digvijay Singh, state Congress unit president Arun Yadav and Leader of Opposition in MP Assembly Satyadev Katare, met Prime Minister Minister Manmohan Singh yesterday in New Delhi seeking assistance for crop damage in Madhya Pradesh.

A Congress statement issued last evening said that the state government has not even sent a memorandum yet in the laid down format as required giving an assessment of the damage.

The Centre has written to the state chief secretary asking that the necessary memorandum be submitted, the statement added.
