An 85-year-old woman and her daughter, both widows, were found murdered in their house in east Delhi’s Laxmi Nagar on Monday. Police said the house had been ransacked and some valuables were missing. Police officials suspects the motive behind the double murder could be either personal enmity of robbery.

'The bodies of Ramwati (85) and her daughter Rajni Thakur (55) were found lying  in a pool of blood by a domestic help at approximately 7.30 am,' said a police official.
'The bodies have been taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for post mortem examination,' said Ajay Kumar, deputy commissioner of police (east).

Ramwati, who hailed from Rajasthan, lived with her 55-year-old daughter Rajni Devi at Sri Durge Apartments in Laxmi Nagar J-Block. 'We have not found any evidence of forced entry or of any door or window having been broken. The television and the air-conditioner were also found to be switched on when the police team reached the spot,' said an official.

The incident came to light when Ramwati’s domestic help Anita reported for work at approximately 9 am. Anita has told the police that she repeatedly rang the doorbell, but received no response. When she pushed the door, however, she found it to be open.
Anita went inside the house and was shocked to see Ramwati and Rajni lying in a pool of blood near the main door.

'There were multiple injury marks on the bodies. Rampati and Rajni had been mercilessly stabbed and the attackers had slit their throats before fleeing,' the officer said. The bodies were taken to the hospital after a crime and forensic team had analysed the spot. A case of murder has also been filed at Shakarpur police station.

According to sources, Rampati and Rajni rarelywent out of the house, but family members would often visit the two. They had been living in the house for the past nine years.
Officials have also questioned the domestic help and other neighbours but are yet to make any breakthrough in the case. 'We are probing the matter, and further investigations are on,' said an official.
