Despite the controversy surrounding Delhi University’s Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP), students are clearly unperturbed. The varsity claimed to have sold over 2 lakh application forms by Tuesday.

The university, which sold 1.71 lakh forms in 2012, is amazed at the unprecedented interest shown by students in joining DU. Dean of student welfare at DU J,M. Khurana said, ‘After the huge controversy over FYUP, the rush of students in the last seven days has not only amazed us but also set a record in the history of the DU’s sale of forms for undergraduate courses.’ Khurana added that there are still six days to go for the application process.

According to the data released by the dean of students welfare, Delhi University has sold 1,24,331 forms from all the 18 authorised centres of the varsity and over one lakh had hit the website for online registration.
On Tuesday alone 76,487 registered on DU website of which 56,535 had paid online. Around 7,368 general and OBC category students bought the forms.

The university sold 2,072 forms to physically handicapped and SC/ST category students.
Students who chose to queue up in the heat rather than opt for online registration at Faculty of Arts in North Campus said they were more comfortable with buying and submitting forms off the counters. Certain students even turned up from other states to apply for DU’s undergraduate programme.
