A day after officials of the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) arrested the co-owner and promoter of cellphone handset maker Micromax, Rajesh Aggarwal, a senior executive of the company Manish Tuli and officials of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation in a graft case, investigating officers recovered Rs 33 lakhs more from one of the civic body engineers.
Sources said that on Thursday more money was recovered from junior engineer Kapil Dev's house. On Wednesday Rs 40 lakhs had been found in his possession.
CBI said that Micromax officials had allegedly bribed four engineers of the north civic body and Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to obtain clearance for constructing a banquet hall in Wazirpur.
CBI sources said Aggarwal and Tuli were asked to pay Rs 50 lakh by the engineers, Satish Kumar (superintending engineer), Naresh Kumar (executive engineer), Sanjay Singh (assistant engineer) and a DDA engineer-to facilitate the clearance.
'DDA engineer Rajesh Gupta acted as a mediator in the deal as he is Aggarwal’s relative,' sources added.
A deal was finally struck at Rs 30 lakh and it was agreed that two junior officials, who came to collect the payment, will also receive some money.
CBI said that as soon as they learnt that money was going to be paid at the Timarpur office of Aggarwal and Tuli, a team rushed to the spot.
Aggarwal and Tuli were apprehended when they were handing over the money to the two beldars.
Meanwhile, two Micromax officials, three engineers, Satish Kumar, Naresh Kumar and Sanjay Kumar, junior engineer in DDA Rajesh Gupta and another accused Ashok, who had been arrested in the case, have been remanded in seven days police custody.
CBI sources said that they are still conducting raids.
