Mob ransack police station, four cops injured

Kaliachak area in Malda virtually turned into a battlefield when a mob went on rampage ransacking a portion of Kaliachak police station on Sunday afternoon.

Four police personnel were injured when the mob stormed into the police station and beaten them up. The mob set police jeeps and motorcycles on fire which were standing outside the police station. 

The incident occurred when the police asked to stop a rally organised by some local people at Chowringhee area in Kaliachak as they were hurling objectionable comments. As the police asked the organisers to stop the rally they became infuriated and engaged in a verbal duel. The incident soon turned violent as some of the organisers attacked the police. Some of them later led the attack in the police station. 

The incident had triggered tension among people in the area. Large number of police forces was deployed to bring the situation under control.
