Uttar Pradesh Police have arrested two people who attacked the District Supply Officer [DSO] of Badaun and made a futile attempt to set his official car, with other team members inside, on fire.

The DSO Neeraj Singh had raided Zarifnagar locality on Thursday night following a tip off about the  manufacture of adulterated diesel from kerosene. The accused poured kerosene over the car and tried to set the vehicle on fire but local residents saved the officials.

Senior Superintendent of Police Manjil Saini said that the two arrested are brothers  Rinku and Tinku,  while efforts were on to nab others.

State Director General of Police A C Sharma has asked Badaun police to impose National Security Act against the culprits.

The DSO Neeraj Singh said that the accused first prevented his team to check the stock and when he insisted the traders attacked them.

The incident took place yesterday when on a tip off DSO Neeraj Singh raided fair price shop owner Girish Chandra’s house and found him mixing kerosene with diesel. Finding this, the officer sealed the shop of Girish.

While returning from there, he was surrounded by a mob including women, which tried to set him afire by sprinkling kerosene on him.

The officer managed to escape from the spot and informed senior officers.

The SSP said 154 FIRs have been registered against mostly unidentified people but five people have been named accused which include village pradhan Mayank Gupta. She also confirmed that all the accused are close relative of a senior BJP leader Mahesh Chandra Gupta.

The cases were registered at Jarifnagar police station under Section 147, 148, 332, 353 and 307 of the IPC against Girish Gupta, Manoj Gupta, Sandeep, Mayank and Devesh.
