Delhi Water Minister Kapil Mishra dedicated an Any Time Water (ATW) RO plant to the residents of Lalbagh, Azadpur JJ Cluster on Monday. The plant was installed by Delhi Jal Board in association with a private partner.
“This will surely result in better health, especially among children, as it will make the area free of water-borne diseases,” said Kapil Mishra. At these ATWs, the JJ dwellers can dispense RO water through the rechargeable swipe cards issued to them, for which nominal user charges of 10 paise per litre would be collected by the SHG women operators to run the RO plants on a self-sustainable model.
The day-to-day operations of the ATW RO plants will be managed by women members of the Self Help Groups (SHGs) working in these clusters. The women SHGs were formed by the private partner in the community in order to address the issue of unemployment and to infuse the spirit of entrepreneurship among women. The plant has been installed near Ram Leela Maidan of Lalbagh after seeking inputs from the local area pradhans.
The ATW RO water purifier has a capacity of 500 litre per hour and each household can withdraw a maximum of 10 litre of RO water per day. The minister lauded the community services of the private body which is working in 223 JJ clusters of North and North-west Delhi through 290 women literacy centres, 14 vocational training centres, tutorial classes, drug de-addiction camps, mobile medical dispensary service, HIV/AIDs awareness programmes, blood donation camps, support to SC & ST community under its Affirmative Action Policy, among others, benefiting more than 12 lakh people.
