In a tragic incident, a one-and-a half-year-old boy lost his life when his father, an auto-rickshaw driver driving the vehicle in an inebriated state, collided with a motorcycle in Swaroop Nagar area of North-west Delhi on Sunday night.
According to the police, the incident took place at Kushak Road number 2 at around 9.30 pm when Ashok (30), the auto-rickshaw driver was driving his vehicle while Manan, his one-and-a-half-year-old boy, was sitting in the rear seat and collided head-on with the motorcycle.
The impact of the collision was such that Manan suffered head injuries and was allegedly crushed under the wheels of the auto-rickshaw.
Police said that the locals who were present at the scene helped the father-son duo. They made a PCR call and police rushed them to BJRM Hospital where the child was declared brought dead.
Meanwhile, Ashok was transferred to LNJP Hospital later where he is undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit. On the other hand, alert locals present at the place of the incident nabbed the motorcyclist, identified as Jugal Kishor, and handed him over to the cops at the nearest police station.
“It was an accidental death. We have booked the accused under relevant sections of the IPC,” said Vijay Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-west).
A case has been registered under Sections 304A (causing death by negligence) and 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) of the IPC at the Swaroop Nagar police station.
