‘Ministers have no time for us,’ rue Congress members

On Friday  the much-awaited Samvaad Baithak was convened at 10 am, at Rajhans resort at Surajkund, convened by Congress President Sonia Gandhi, who along with party’s general secretary Rahul Gandhi travelled to the venue in a volvo bus.

Sonia Gandhi emphasised on the need to rebut the opposition’s allegations on the government while Rahul Gandhi spoke about the importance of inducting younger faces in the party and government. A highly placed source told Millennium Post that Gandhi also stressed on the issue of transparency stating that we have RTI and should be crystal clear in our dealings. He also added that the policies and programs introduced by the government are not being implemented properly.

According to sources defence minister Antony raised the issue of the presence of Congress when it comes to the media coverage, in fact a lot of people in the media have even turned against them, he felt. Adding to this, other Congress leaders said that the party has not been defended properly in the media, and there was a dire need to appoint more spokespersons.

During the day-long-meeting, sources say that Congress leader Shakeel Ahmed said that another serious issue plaguing the party was that the government has been not listening to party members. There are several ministers in the government who don’t give time for an appointment to party members, said the source.

Another pertinent issue which was raised during the meeting was of  that of LPG  gas cylinders. Most present during the meet felt that a 15000 crore subsidy which was coming from this could be obtained from any other place as well, said a source.

Finance minister P Chidambaram  raised the issue of problems existing with file movement in the system. According to a source, Chidambaram during the meet said that the because this issuethe confidence of the industry in the government was decreasing. Some people are afraid to take decisions which is a cause of immense worry.

Sources also add that senior party leader Ajit Jogi asserted during the meet that there was a need to concentrate on elections and the party should in fact get on with Barack Obama type campaign. He also stressed that they should have tailor-made policies keeping in mind different groups.
