Millennium Post’s Africa Rising editor Kalyan Mukherjee dead

Our ‘Africa Rising’ editor Kalyan Mukherjee died at the age of 62 years (1954-2016) on Wednesday night. He has worked in various leading media organisations like the Business Standard, Hindustan Times and Times Television between 1978 and 1988. He wrote a series of news articles on the bandits of Chambal like Malkhan Singh and Phoolan Devi, while acting as a mediator for their eventual surrender and rehabilitation. 

In 1988 he founded his film production company called KAS Moviemakers. He has made forays into the arena of Bengali Literature, writing seven novels and a collection of short stories, the last of which was published is Aleyar Desh, published in 2015. 

A multifaceted personality he took to the African continent while working as an honorary tutor for underprivileged African children as a volunteer for an international organisation in 2010. Since then he had visited Africa twice and began the ‘Africa Rising’ section of this newspaper, with which he was emotionally attached.
