Metro to connect Haryana’s Bahadurgarh to capital

Update: 2013-02-04 00:48 GMT
Bahadurgarh is all set to become the fourth National Capital Region town and the third city of Haryana to be connected with Delhi through Metro Rail, as Union Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath and Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda laid the foundation stone of Mundka (Delhi)-Bahadurgarh Metro rail link at Bahadurgarh on Sunday.

The project, having a route length of 11.182 km, will be completed by March 2016 with project cost of Rs 1,991 crore. The government of Haryana will contribute Rs 787.96 crore. There will be seven stations–Mundka Industrial Area, Ghewra, Tikri Kalan, Tikri Border (all four in Delhi), Modern Industrial Estate, Bus Stand and City Park Bahadurgarh (in Haryana) from Mundka to Bahadurgarh.

The travel time from Bahadurgarh (City Park) to Mundka will be 20 minutes, while it will take 45 minutes upto Inderlok and about 50 minutes upto Kirti Nagar in Delhi.

An agreement regarding the same was also signed between Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA). Principal Secretary, Town and Country Planning, Haryana S S Dhillon and Director (works) DMRC Jitender Tyagi signed the agreement on behalf of the two organisations.

Union Minister Kamal Nath said that this link was needed to connect Haryana on this side through Metro and it would help change habits of people. The travel timing from Bahadurgarh to Delhi will be drastically reduced. He said this is a good project for Haryana, which would expedite the pace of development here.

He lauded the role played by Rohtak MP Deepender Singh Hooda in bringing this project to Haryana and said that Deepender took keen interest and never missed the opportunity to put forward the demand whenever he got the chance.

Nath also mentioned the fast development of Haryana and gave credit to Chief Minister  Bhupinder Singh Hooda for this. Hooda thanked the Union Minister for sanctioning the project and said that it will prove to be a milestone in way of development. He said the Metro link will be helpful for people of Haryana.

Referring to Bahadurgarh, Hooda said growth was witnessed on three sides of Delhi–Faridabad, Gurgaon and Noida–but Bahadurgarh remained neglected. He said that he has a map of development of this town, which would make it equal to Gurgaon in coming 5-7 years in terms of development.

Earlier, Rohtak MP Deepender Singh Hooda also conveyed gratitude on behalf of the people towards the union minister for sanctioning the project. He said that it took three years to get the project through and that Delhi was reluctant regarding construction of Metro rail in its territory after Mundka, saying it was sparsely populated.

It will be an important link for development of the state as the path of growth passes through Bahadurgarh. He said, ‘Now the target is to extend this link upto Assuada where Metro station and bus stand would be at one place. He said now he would try to get Electric Train (EMU) approved between Bahadurgah and Delhi during this month.’

Hooda said a few days ago, Rewari was connected to Rohtak via Jhajjar by laying a new rail line.

Presently, three new rail lines are being laid in Haryana. Education Minister Geeta Bhukkal, Former Haryana Vidhan Sabha Speaker Raghubir Kadian, Political Advisor to CM Virender and MLA Bahadurgarh Rajender Singh Joon also addressed the gathering.
