In what came as a major relief to the medical students of Vardhaman Mahavir Medical College (VMMC) and Ram Manohar Lohia hospital, the post graduate seats of the two medical institutions will now not be transferred to Delhi University and will remain with Indraprastha University.
A fresh order was issued by Director General Health Service (DGHS) government of India, Dr Jagdish Prasad which cancelled the earlier order for the proposal of the transfer of PG seats of VMMC and RML from Indraprastha University to Delhi University.
The earlier order had caused huge dissatisfaction among the medical students who along with
resident doctors went on a strike on Monday morning leading to the closure of the OPDs at RML and Safdarjung hospital. Later the strike was called off.
The two hospitals are considered to be one of the busiest hospitals in the city and are visited by thousands of patients. The medical students on Friday too had kept a token strike expressing their
dissatisfaction on the matter of the transfer of seats and had warned of a strike due to the non-cooperation from the authorities.
“Transfer of PG seats to DU will lead in reduction of seats and will harm the interests of the medical students,” stated Prabhav Chadhury, one of the protesting medical students earlier in the morning.
