Medical exams: HRD balm for NEET-2 aspirants

Update: 2016-07-15 23:51 GMT
The relief came on a day  the Supreme Court upheld the ordinance allowing conduct of NEET part 2.
Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar on Thursday said, “There was a technical glitch in the registration software, which has been rectified by the ministry. The step has been initiated after I received some requests from students who expressed their inability to pay the fee for the NEET-2 exam due to financial constraints.”

Elaborating further, the minister said, “In case a candidate appeared in NEET-I and applied for NEET-II but has not paid the fee, his candidature for NEET-II will be cancelled.” “The registration issued to any candidate is basically a unique number which is issued to all candidates who register with the system. In the above case, result of NEET-I will be considered,” he said.

“In case, a candidate appeared in NEET-I and applied for NEET-II successfully but could not appear in NEET-II, such cases will be placed before the Oversight Committee for consideration of their NEET-I result,” Javadekar said, adding that any other case which will come to the notice would also be placed before the oversight committee for taking final decisions.

When asked about HRD Ministry’s move, Health Secretary BP Sharma told Millennium Post that CBSE would need to take the call to amend procedures of NEET examinations. “The ministry and medical institutions are concerned about admitting successful candidates on the basis of marks obtained in either of NEET-1 or NEET-2,” Sharma said.

However, Sharma said that though he was not aware of the latest HRD Ministry’s move, he hailed the initiative taken in the best interest of students.
