In highly critical words, the leaders advised the Kejriwal-government to improve upon the functioning of various departments of Delhi government, which have become den of corruption. The leaders alleged that Public Works Department (PWD), Delhi Jal Board (DJB), Health, Education, Food and Civil Supply, Transport departments of Delhi government are the most corrupt departments in the city.
Retaliating over Kejriwals’ criticism of all three MCDs and his advice for resignation to the corporations, the MCD leaders said that the Delhi CM has given a politically motivated statement. “If MCD is not working then BJP should resign. AAP will turn MCD into a profit-making venture within a year,” Kejriwal had said on the floor of the Delhi Assembly on Wednesday.
“The statement given by the CM is unconstitutional and reflects his distrust in the existing system. He wants to infringe upon the rights of the corporations and the elected representatives because the BJP controls these bodies. Although, there is rampant corruption in various departments of the Delhi government, the CM turns a blind eye on them,” said Meera Aggarwal, leader of the House of North MCD.
Aggarwal said that Kejriwal claims that AAP government can turn the MCDs into profit making bodies within one year but he is unaware of the fact that municipal bodies are responsible for providing civic amenities, for which they receive grants and funds from the city government and the Union government. “The Corporations ensure civic services in public welfare but the Delhi CM is trying to project them as loss making institutions and even lame excuses are being made to defame their reputation,” she said.
Ram Narayan Dubey, leader of the House of East MCD said: “The roads constructed by the Public Works Department (PWD) are washed away by just slight rains. These are evidences of wide spread corruption within PWD. There is a deluge of water and sewer related complaints from various nooks of the city. The Delhi Transport Corporation is facing severe financial crisis and even the salaries of its employees have been disbursed for the last couple of months. The health services in Delhi have been deteriorating ever since the AAP government took charge. Arvind Kejriwal must check corruption in these departments.”
“According to the recommendations of the third Finance Commission, the corporations should have received the global share in the ratio of 5.5 per cent, which was reduced to four percent. On the other hand, recommendations of the 4th Finance Commission, which advocates the global share for local bodies up to 12.5 per cent and full reimbursement for the expenditure on education, are yet to be placed in the Assembly’s House,” added Dubey.
