A massive rally was held in the city to protest against demonetisation and political vendetta in arresting Sudip Bandopadhyay.

The rally started at Sinthee More and ended at Park Circus Maidan covering a distance of about 6 km.

Thousands of Trinamool Congress workers and leaders took part in the rally which was organised by the North Kolkata unit of the party. Bandopadhyay is an MP from Kolkata North Lok Sabha constituency.

The leaders alleged that just to settle his score, Narendra Modi let loose CBI against Bandopadhyay and got him arrested.

“CBI does not have any proof against him. As an MP, he might have attended a function of Rose Valley but he did not force people to invest in the chit fund company,” they said adding: “In Lok Sabha, Bandopadhyay was vocal against Narendra Modi government and his demonetisation. Just to scare Mamata Banerjee, Modi got him arrested. But Didi will continue to protest against Modi till he is ousted.”

The leaders shouted: “Modi hatao and Desh bachao” slogan. They said demonetisation had affected development works carried out by the state government badly.

The pace of development has slowed down and small traders, businessmen were affected very badly.

Thousands of workers involved in gem cutting and diamond polishing lost their jobs. The tailoring community is also affected. They said the plan was taken without consulting anyone.

All the leading economists in the country and abroad have criticised demonetisation and have predicted great economic depression which is the offing.

It may be mentioned that demonstrations by Trinamool Congress supporters in front of Central
Government establishments to protest against demonetisation of high value notes and arrest of its leaders to score political vendetta were held throughout the state on Tuesday.
