Buzz has once again started doing the rounds about the much-speculated cabinet reshuffle, after the Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met President Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday. The prime minister met Mukherjee for an hour in the morning before he left for Hyderabad on a day's visit.
The Congress president met Mukherjee in the evening for about 40 minutes. Even though there has been no official announcement regarding the issues discussed at these meetings, the interactions have fuelled a fresh round of speculations about the expected changes in the council of ministers, which can take place before Mukherjee leaves New Delhi on 20 October to celebrate Durga Puja in West Bengal.
Varied permutations and combinations have been emerging regarding the reshuffle for quite some time now, especially after the Trinamool Congress ministers resigned from the cabinet. There were also vacancies created by the resignations of A Raja and Dayanidhi Maran from the DMK. Raja and Maran vacated their cabinet posts after their names emerged in the 2G specturm scam. However, the DMK chief M Karunanidhi has recently made it clear that his party will not like to reclaim the lost posts.
