A 24-year-old Manipuri man was stabbed and robbed by four to five armed unidentified people early on Tuesday morning in Mehrauli area of south Delhi. Four juveniles were arrested in connection with the case later in the evening.
The incident took place at around 3.45 am when Khupsiangen, who works with an NGO in Dwarka, was returning home in Mehruali from a church alone. Meanwhile, four to five men approached him and reportedly robbed Khupsiangen at knife point. Later, the criminals stabbed him and fled away.
According to police, Khupsiangen was robbed of his mobile phone and some cash. ‘The incident was only aimed at robbery and not racially motivated. We have registered a case against them and booked them under the sections of attempt to murder and robbery,’ a senior police official said.
The victim was stabbed in his chest and abdomen. He sustained reportedly sustained one-centimetre deep knife wound. Even after receiving injuries, he managed to reach his rented accommodation in Paryavaran complex where he was residing since the past five months with his friend. Khupsiangen reportedly collapsed on the main gate of his apartment where a security guard noticed him lying on the ground in a pool of blood.
The boy was then rushed to a nearby hospital. Subsequently, the police was informed and Khupsiangen underwent an emergence abdominal surgery. Till late in the evening, he remained critical.
So far Khupsiangen’s statement has not been recorded because he is medically unfit to talk to the police.
He has been kept in the intensive care unit. ‘As the incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday no eyewitness has been traced to narrate the sequence of events. Investigation is on,’ the official added.
