Update: 2016-08-02 00:54 GMT
The Delhi Commission for Women and Union Women and Child Development (WCD) minister Maneka Gandhi will now work together to curb the rising cyber-trolling taking place on social media. The Delhi Commission for Women had written a letter to Maneka Gandhi earlier, regarding the rising menace of cyber trolling and was appreciated by Gandhi.

In this regard, DCW Chief Swati Maliwal met Maneka Gandhi on July 25. The Delhi Commission for Women received a letter from Gandhi wherein she commended the initiative of the Commission against cyber–trolling and has also stated that she looks forward to work with the Commission on this issue.

The DCW in a letter had told the WCD ministry that a cyber cell as a pilot project would be established to curb the menace of cyber trolling and the like. It has also been decided that complaints of cyber trolling pertaining to Delhi shall be heard by the Delhi Commission for Women, while those pertaining to the rest of India shall be heard by the Ministry of Women and Child Development.

The Delhi Commission for Woman in July had written a letter Gandhi expressing their concern on the increasing number of cases of cyber harassment, abuse and trolling. It is also pertinent to mention that the Commission will seek cooperation from the Delhi Police.

The major function of the proposed cyber cell would also be to conduct in-depth research pertaining to online harassment of women.  The Commission has already identified some potential roadblocks as there are many impediments to the immediate removal of abusive content or blocking of abusive users in micro-blogging.
