Man wanted in abduction bid arrested

A man, who had allegedly tried to abduct a businessman in North Delhi’s Narela area in June last year during which one of the kidnapper was shot dead, has been arrested, police said on Sunday.

Amit alias Vicky (30)  was arrested from Mukarba Chowk by a team led by North West DCP Dinesh Kumar Gupta, JCP (Crime) Ravindra Yadav said.

According to the police, Amit, along with four associates – Praveen, Arun, Vijay and Raja – had planned to abduct Ramesh Chand Garg, a businessman who deals in hardware, from his shop in Shivaji Nagar, Narela, on June 17, 2014.

An scuffle broke out between them during the abduction bid, in which one of the kidnappers allegedly fired a shot at Garg, but the bullet hit Praveen, who died on the spot. An FIR was registered under several Sections, including murder, of the IPC and the Arms Act.

Amit told the police that he and his associates Praveen, Arun, Vijay and Raja had planned to abduct Garg for a ransom of Rs 50 lakh. Three accused in the case were already arrested and only Amit had been evading arrest.
