A 25-year-old man, suspecting his wife of having an extra-marital affair, stabbed her and killed their 13-month-old daughter in a fit of rage in their rented accommodation in the Azadpur village area of North-west Delhi in the early hours of Wednesday.
According to the police, the incident took place at around 2.30 am when Kanhaiya, alias Krishan, had a heated argument with his 22-year-old wife Cecilia. Accusing her of being in an extra-marital relationship, Krishan took a butcher knife and stabbed her repeatedly. He then slit their daughter Sakshi’s throat. “Krishan himself called the police telling that he had attacked his wife and child. He told us that after attacking them he had locked them in another room,” said an investigating officer.
A police team rushed to the spot and took the child and the woman to a nearby hospital. The child was declared brought dead while the woman is recuperating. Meanwhile, Krishan was apprehended and the murder weapon was recovered. During interrogation, he admitted to killing his daughter and injuring his wife. He broke down and revealed how he was angry with his wife due to her bad character, said a senior Delhi Police officer. A native of Chhapra in Bihar, Krishan was working as an electrician. He had married Cecilia, after which they moved to Azadpur, said police. “The woman suffered stab injuries on her head, hand and other parts. She has been admitted at the Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital where her condition is said to be stable,” said the officer. Police have registered a case under Sections 302 (murder) and 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons
or means) of the IPC against Krishan at the Adarsh Nagar police station.
