Man robbed, shot at by masked men

A 75-year-old shopkeeper was shot at and robbed by some unidentified masked men in Brahmpuri area of east Delhi on Tuesday late evening.

The assailants also fire at the victim’s son Ramchandra when he tried to intervene.

The victim has been identified as Jyoti Ram Garg, a resident of Seelampur.  

Garg was going towards his car after shutting his shop in Brahmpuri when he was attacked.

‘At gunpoint, the assailants tried to snatch Garg’s bag. When he resisted, they shot him in his hand and thigh,’ said a police official.

When the shopkeeper’s son Ramchandra tried to intervene, he was also shot, which the bullet missed him.

Then, the assailants fled the spot.

‘Garg said he was carrying his lunch box in the bag, which the assailants assumed to be full of cash,’ the official added.

He was rushed to Guru Govind Singh Hospital where doctors said his condition is out of danger, the police said.

A case has been registered and a probe is on in the matter.
