In a horrifying incident, a 30-year-old man strangled his wife and two-year-old old daughter in north Delhi’s Adarsh Nagar area. The accused subsequently threw their bodies from the second floor of his flat.

The incident took place on Saturday night when the accused, identified as Ajeet Kumar, called the police control room. He informed police that he had killed his wife and daughter. A police team immediately rushed to the spot and found a woman lying in a pool of blood. She was rushed to the hospital and was declared dead on arrival.

When the team reached the second floor of Ajeet’s house, they found him relaxed on his bed and watching television. He then narrated the incident to the police, alleging that he was upset with his wife-Shalini (28) because she had given birth to a girl child-Vanshika. Since the past two years, he would torture Shalini for the same reason.

During the investigation, police learnt that Ajeet would also harass her over dowry and thrashed her out of his house several times. Shalini had earlier informed her maternal family about the assaults. ‘The couple got married in 2010. Their marriage was strained,’ said one of the family members. He added that a few years ago, a district court had to interfere to settle their issues.

While the proceeding was on, Shalini had initially shifted in with her maternal family. A few months later, she again returned to her residence and started living with her husband. Ajeet worked at a hotel in Ghaziabad. During the interrogation, Ajeet confessed that on Saturday night, the couple got into a heated argument and in anger Ajeet strangled her to death. When she fell unconscious, he strangled his daughter, who had cried for help. Further, he had thrown both mother and child from the balcony of his residence. Shalini fell on an ice-cream cart parked outside the main gate of their residence. A case under murder charges has been registered at Adarsh Nagar police station and Ajeet has been arrested. ‘Further investigation is underway and family members, relatives are being questioned,’ the official added.

Meanwhile the bodies have been handed over to her family members after the post-mortem examination was conducted. ‘Reports are however awaited’, the official said.
