In a horrifying incident, a man has strangled his wife to death with a wire after an argument over a petty issue in south-east Delhi’s Jamia Nagar area. The man has been arrested.

The incident came to light on Monday morning at around 9.30 am when the victim’s neighbour found the body of 25-year-old Razia Tabassum. She was living in a rented accommodation in Abul Fazal area with her husband since the past few years. Tabassum was a resident of Bihar and got married six years ago.

Soon after her marriage the couple started having heated arguments over petty issues and the neighbours had to intervene in the matter to calm them down on several occasions. On Sunday night, the couple allegedly again indulged in a fight and the argument turned violent. Ali Imaam (34) strangled his wife with a wire and escaped from the house leaving her unconscious.

Delhi police managed to nab Imaam from Okhla where he was hiding at a friend’s place. During interrogation, Imaam confessed to his crime and has been booked under section-302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.

In a separate incident, a 24-year-old woman received gun shot injuries on her back after her husband Sanjeev accidentally shot at her from his friend’s revolver. The incident took place on Monday at the couple’s house in north-east Delhi’s Khajoori Khas area. The victim has been identified as Rekha.

She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. The hospital staff informed the police about the incident after which a team reached there.

Rekha’s, who underwent a surgery following the accident, in her statement to the police confirmed that it was a case of accidental firing. Both Sanjeev and the gun owner Rohit have been arrested.
