A debt-ridden man committed suicide on Thursday by jumping before a speeding train with his two children, who were also killed in the incident, police said.
Noor Mohammad, 35, a resident of Sanjay Puri, jumped before Super Fast Express, running between Delhi and Jalandhar on Delhi-Dehradun railway track near Kazampur near here, taking his daughter Reshma, 5, and son Shahid, 3, in his lap.
Noor used to earn his livelihood by plying a small passenger vehicle. On the pretext of taking the children to a fair, he took them to the railway track and committed suicide. Noor had told his wife that he was going to the Gandhi mela [fair] in Modinagar.
The train service remained disrupted for several hours on the Delhi-Dehradun rail track following the incident.
On Wednesday, four money lenders had barged into Noor’s house and threatened to abduct his children, if the money was not returned. The incident apparently led to Mohammed taking the step, Superintendent of Police [Rural] Jagdish Sharma said.
