A man was allegedly strangulated to death by his friend for merely Rs 80 in the Hari Nagar area of west Delhi, police said on Wednesday.

Pappu Yadav (27) has been arrested for strangulating Vinod to death during a dispute over sharing Rs 80 between them, they said.

Pappu and Vinod, who knew each other, had been working as labourers for the past three-four years. They lived at a ‘rain basera’ (night shelter) in Yamuna Bazar near Old Delhi Railway Station.

On 30 October, they worked at a function organised in Janakpuri. Happy with their performance, the organiser on Saturday gave them gifts and Rs 100 to be shared between them.

Of the Rs 100, the two bought liquor worth Rs 20 and started drinking in the same area. The remaining Rs 80 was to be shared between them.

But after consuming liquor, Vinod and Pappu started fighting over the remaining amount. During the scuffle, Pappu strangulated Vinod with a rope and fled the spot.
