A 35-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of an approaching train in Outer Delhi’s Rohini East Metro station on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Abhishek Gupta.
According to the Delhi Metro police, the incident took place late in the evening when Gupta was last spotted waiting for a train in platform number 2 of the Rohini East station on Delhi Metro’s Red Line.
Police said that Gupta was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. However, the reason why he took the extreme step could not be ascertained.
According to the police, from the spot, the police recovered Gupta’s broken mobile phone and his drivers’ license but no suicide note. He was a resident of Rohini Sector 14.
According to the data obtained from the Delhi Metro police, in 2014, eleven cases of suicides were reported in the Delhi Metro tracks while in 2015, a total of 17 people ended their lives by jumping in front of an approaching train. Out of the total 80 cases of suicide attempts, despite the intervention of the CISF, suicides inside the Metro stations continue.
