A businessman was arrested at the IGI Airport for trying to smuggle in about 78 kg of silver jewellery, police said on Friday. Shariq Khan, 30, a Mumbai resident, was intercepted at the airport on Thursday, when he arrived from Bangkok. ‘He tried to clear 77.078 kg of silver without paying customs duty,’ said police. The jewellery was recovered from two checked-in baggages and a handbag. ‘The value of the recovered silver is Rs 37.01 lakh,’ said an official. Following registration of a case, Khan was arrested under sections of the Customs Act.
