A man has been sentenced to seven years in jail by a Delhi court, which ruled that he had negligently killed his wife, as he was annoyed with her drinking habits and keeping late hours.

Additional sessions judge JR Aryan handed down the jail term to convict Sadhu Ram saying that he had committed the offence after an altercation with his wife, Rajo.

‘It is a matter of record that 43 injuries were noticed on the person of the victim during post mortem and only one injury... was found to have been fatal. Most of the other injuries were abrasions and bruises. the court said.

The convict, who was facing trial for killing his wife, was spared the jail term prescribed for murder as the court held that there was no evidence to convict him under Section 302 (murder) of IPC.

It, however, convicted Sadhu under section 304, Part-I (culpable homicide not amounting to murder). ‘These circumstances suggest that injuries were caused intentionally... (the fact) that he was likely to have caused the death is reasonably inferable and, thereby, offence of the accused comes under Section 304, Part-I’, the court said.
