Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested a 27-year-old man who was a dealer of illegal arms in Delhi-NCR. From his possession, 10 country-made pistols of .315 bore, 9 long barrels country-made guns of 12 bore and 20 cartridges of .315 bore have been recovered, police said on Friday.
The accused has been identified as Asad Ali who was supplying the illicit weapons manufactured in Bihar, MP and Western UP to Delhi-NCR. According to police, in February, a team of Special Cell has arrested Savinder Kumar and recovered 50 sophisticated pistols. Further during sustained interrogation and after receiving specific inputs about the group of criminals involved in illegal arms supply racket, name of Asad Ali cropped up.
On Thursday, based on an information Asad was apprehended from Dwarka along with the weapons that were later taken into seized. During interrogation, Asad disclosed that he is involved in illegal trade of arms for two years. He has supplied many consignments of arms in various parts of Western UP and Delhi NCR during this period.
He further revealed that he used to purchase country-made firearm of .315 bore with 5 cartridges for an amount of Rs 7 to 8 thousand and long barrel gun of .315 bore for an amount of Rs 10 to 12 thousand. From sale of every weapon he used to earn a profit of around Rs 5 to 6 thousand. In the year 2015 he was arrested twice in UP, when he was found in possession with illegal weapons. In February last year, when he was arrested, he was found in possession of four illegal weapons. He also attacked the police team while being chased. He remained in jail for two months. Later in July 2015, he was again arrested with his three other associates in UP when they were running a factory of illegal arms at Village Sikandarpur. Illegal weapons and tools were recovered from the factory. He was kept in jail for about 4 months then.
“The Special Cell team is working to nab the source of supply and end users. Efforts are on for further recoveries and investigation is in progress,” Sanjeev Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) said.
