Mamata meets S’pore foreign minister, invites him to Kolkata

‘It was a very positive and fruitful meeting,’ Banerjee wrote on her Facebook page later in the day. ‘Our discussion covered areas of urban and township development, construction, infrastructure planning, tourism, hospitality, human resources and training, and the MICE (meetings, incentives, conferencing, exhibitions) industry,’ Banerjee said.

To facilitate a better understanding of West Bengal for businessmen in both Singapore and West Bengal, the chief minister announced a study paper with focus parameters and expertise from National University of Singapore’s Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy. The idea has been appreciated by Shanmugam. ‘The idea was appreciated by Shanmugam who suggested maintaining a key focus on progress and development,’ Mamata said.

There is also going to be a business-to-business programme on specific sectors to be identified through dialogue. Banerjee also invited Shanmugam to visit Kolkata to which he is reported to have responded positively.

It is on Shanmugam’s invitation that Banerjee is on a five-day visit to Singapore with 60 delegates to scout for fresh investment for the state.
